“Populism and Beyond”

(gm) The financial crisis has helped to cement one of the few certainties of today’s political Europe, which is that the quasi-religious system of eternal, constant growth is coming to an end, with Europe facing financial-political collapse. Debt, inflation and unemployment have not only cast doubt on long-standing social accomplishments, they also represent the ideal fertile soil for new types of populist. The emergence of these figures must be seen in conjunction with a change in the nature of the democratic system over recent years.  more ...

The building in Duisburg-Marxoh received considerable attention, not only because of its size, but also because its construction was relatively conflict-free. What impact could the construction of mosques have on western cities and what do the Muslim population have to offer these areas.  more ...

The Tip of the Iceberg

(gm) – Events took place in Iceland earlier this year that directly put the country‎’s citizenry in direct opposition to their elected officials in regards to the liability incurred for the failure of the Icelandic Bank. The citizens of that country created a referendum by acquiring the requisite number of signatures, which was then voted upon by them.  more ...
